Vasa was the King's warship who sank on her maiden voyage in 1628. In 1961, after 333 years under the sea, she was salvaged and brought back to the surface. Many years of conservation and restoration followed before the present Vasa Museum was finally inaugurated in 1990. In 2009 the museum set visitor records of more than a million visitors!
